Evans

This past weekend we decided to get the front rangers done and hike Evans. It's been a few years since our last front ranger. We were surprised to see the herds of people at bierstat. Talk about a human highway. Very relieving to know we are done with these popular ones and headed back into more remote places. We took the non trad route to Evans, bush whacking thru a couple miles of crappy shoulder high bushes before actually gaining any elevation. Once up on the ridge, its fairly easy to follow the carins and summit. Of course, nothing is more depressing than joining fellow 14er hikers who were walking from their car with their flip flops on. We summit for 2 min before looking at the clouds and sprinting down. Around 13,000 the thunder started. So loud when you're up there. I'm pretty sure I jumped each time. We sprinted down to get off the ridge before the hail and lightning started. (People, some with kids, were still going up. What is wrong with you people?). Lightning struck ground over on bierstat but luckily no one was hit. On the way back to the trees we had to re-bush whack. It wasn't fun the first time and especially not fun when its all wet. By the time we hit the car, we were soaked head to toe and our boots had standing water in them. Way to end with a bang I suppose.
